You Are Not Attaining Enlightenment for Yourself

The attainment of enlightenment can only take place for the benefit of others rather than yourself. If you are doing it for yourself, you could become an egomaniac. You might like to be an important person in history, or you might want to be something less significant than that, but still you would like to build yourself up, to create a monument to yourself. But in this case, none of those possibilities are available, because you are not attaining enlightenment for yourself.
