Mahayana, the Bodhisattva Path of Wisdom and Compassion:
A Retreat with Judith Lief

When: June 7 to 15, 2014.

Where: Saco, Maine

An eight-day program of meditation practice and study of Volume Two of The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma, by Ven. Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. The program will be led by Judith Lief, the editor of The Profound Treasury, assisted by other senior students of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Profound-Treasury-Ocean-Dharma-big2The Profound Treasury is a work that rewards continual reading and study over a lifetime and in particular deep study in a quiet meditative context. In this program, over eight days we will intersperse sessions of meditation practice with talks and practice instructions provided by Ms. Lief, as well as study sessions, and discussion groups conducted by senior students of Chogyam Trungpa.

We will look at mahayana notions of emptiness, compassion, and their inseparable union. Our study will include an exploration of relative and ultimate bodhichitta, buddha nature, and the stages of the mahayana path of awakening.  Lively investigations into the nature of prajna, or transcendent knowledge, will be balanced by the presentation of practical techniques for clarifying the mind and cultivating loving kindness and compassion.

Pre-requisites: Participants are required to complete some study of Volume 1, The Path of Individual Liberation, prior to arriving, and to have prior experience of sitting meditation practice. We will work with students accepted to the retreat,  to help them complete the pre-requisites.

The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma is an enduring contribution to Western Buddhism by the great meditation master Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.  This year the Profound Treasury retreat will focus on Volume Two of this masterful work, bringing meditation, study and contemplation to bear on the vast and profound path of the Mahayana as presented in The Profound Treasury

profound_treasury_panel_sm2The compiler and editor of The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma, Judith L. Lief, was a close student of Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, who authorized her as a teacher in the Buddhist and Shambhala traditions. She has served as one of his primary editors for over twenty-five years.
